I got my feet on the ground and I don't go to sleep to dream [Jan. 23rd, 2008|09:24 pm]

My name is Astrid Dylan, and I am an alumni of Degrassi Community School. It's been five years since my graduation, and that would be mostly irrelevant to my life if it wasn't for my high school's five year reunion coming up soon, and I guess this reunion has made me evaluate my life more than I was expecting it to. Is this where I wanted to be five years after getting my freedom? I guess my answer would be yes and no.

I have a great job. I'm a wedding planner here in Toronto. After I graduated, I got my Associate's degree in business and then I was hired by the agency that I work for now. I can't tell you that I've seen brides left at altars or that I can predict how long a marriage will last based on the color of a bridesmaid dress like Jennifer Lopez in The Wedding Planner because I've only been doing this for three years, but damn, I can organize and work under stress better than anyone that you probably know. I have a cozy little apartment with my cat Magnolia, and my life is generally high-paced and fun -- just the way that I like it.

Those are the good aspects of my life. The bad? Sometimes I feel like I have no free time, I really haven't kept in touch with my old friends, but mostly, I don't have anyone to share my life with. When I was little, I always pictured myself having a huge wedding right after I graduated from high school, but alas, I've had no such luck. The last guy that I seriously dated was years ago, and it was a complete disaster. I've had many dates since then, sure, but I'm not one for tradition, I guess, or maybe I'm just scared. I know I'm a hopeless romantic deep down, -- I mean hey, I plan weddings for a living -- but I haven't even followed the third date rule since before my ex. Maybe alcohol was involved in some of those dates, which I've began to realize I sometimes use to cope instead of facing any real emotions, but what's a good date without a glass or two of wine?

So I guess I got this thing mostly because I remember that everyone in high school had one. I figured it might be kind of fun to get back into the loop with everyone from Degrassi before the "big night." My aim screenname is ASTDYL, so don't be shy.

No, I think that's the exact definition of rockstar party.

Well that certainly is a coincidence! We should team up... except maybe not really, my clients might not like to have their weddings crashed. But anyway, thanks, and it's good to hear from you.

If by business you mean non-business, then yeah.

But the word maybe is so indefinite. You should do something about that.
